Modes of Travel

Traveling by Air

There are several airports in the region to choose from if you’re flying in. Please note that they’re all a bit of a commute from Spillian, so you’ll need to figure that into your travel plans. You can rent a car at any of these airports and most have public transportation choices. Click here for some great information about the various New York City area airports from Trip Advisor.

LIST OF AIRPORTS

Albany

Albany International Airport is the easiest airport to navigate — a small regional (though international, mostly from Canada) airport. It’s very easy to rent a car there and a beautiful 2 hour drive to Spillian.  If you’re coming in a group, call us about hiring a shuttle service at 800-811-3351.

Newark

Newark Liberty International Airport is about 2.5 hours from Spillian by car. You can find options for public transportation here. If you take the train, you’ll need to get from Rhinecliff Train Station to Spillian. If you’re coming in a group, call us about hiring a shuttle service at 800-811-3351.

La Guardia

La Guardia Airport is closer to Manhattan than JFK and offers bus service into the city into Port Authority Bus Station, so you could catch an Adirondack/Pine Hill Trailways bus from there.  If you’re coming in a group, call us about hiring a shuttle service at 800-811-3351.

JFK

John F. Kennedy International Airport is a little farther away from Manhattan than La Guardia, but offers train service directly to Penn Station, where you could pick up a train to Rhinecliff Train Station. If you’re coming in a group, call us about hiring a shuttle service at 800-811-3351.

Driving Directions

Driving From New York City

  • Take I-87 North

  • Take exit 19 toward NY-28/Kingston/Rhinecliff Bridge

  • Follow NY-28 to Fleischmanns

  • Follow NY-28 to Fleischmanns. You should start paying attention when you pass the Belleayre Ski Center on your left. The next village coming up is Fleischmanns.

  • Turn Left onto Fleischmanns Heights Road. This road is on the far side of Fleischmanns so you’ll pass the first turnoff into Fleischmanns on your right. As you head down the hill, you’ll then see a Spillian sign on Rte 28 on your left, on Fleischmanns Heights Road. Take that left!

  • Once you’ve turned onto Fleischmanns Heights Road, you’ll immediately see an old railroad depot and parking lot on your left. Cross the railroad tracks.

  • Turn Right onto the gravel road immediately after you cross the railroad tracks. You’ll see the second Spillian sign on the right side of the gravel road.

  • That’s our driveway! Just follow it up to the house; parking is towards your left as you get to the top of the hill. It’s about a 1500 foot drive.

  • In Winter: If it’s snowy and you’re concerned about your car making it up the hill, please call us at 800-811-3351 from train station parking lot and we’ll come and get you. We plow and salt regularly, but it is a bit of a hill. If you’ve got 4WD, you’ll be fine, and 2WD generally is fine too, unless it’s really been wintery. But give us a call if you’re not sure!

  • Cell Phones: The Catskills are a bit like Brigadoon, and you will probably lose cell phone service along the way. Not to worry! If you get really lost, stop and ask for directions or to use someone’s phone to call us. Folks up here are used to communications systems that are a bit, shall we say, rural, and are generally delighted to be helpful.

  • Parking: As you come up to the top of the hill, please feel free to turn to the right towards the mansion to drop of people or stuff. There is a parking lot to the left on that T at the top of the hill — please park there, with the nose of your car facing down hill. If you’re in doubt, don’t hesitate to come to the mansion and ask for help.

  • Parking for big events: parking is very limited at the mansion, so for large events, our staff will direct you to parking at the railroad station and our shuttle will bring you up the hill and back.
